Embracing varieties that really work...

At Nuova Scuola we believe it is time to throw aside tradition and let go of the over thrashed varieties that fill the rows of bottle shops everywhere.

Its time to embrace a new way of thinking about wine!  We think it is about time more of us get our lips around some locally grown versions of a few of the fantastic old world varieties that the rest of the world has been clued into since ancient times but we have forgotten!

We have taken the plunge in the beautiful South Burnett in Queensland and we are starting to make our own wines based on this philosophy. We began with small parcels of Viognier, Nebbiolo and Sangiovese, and have since added Tempranillo and Pinot Grigio, not only because they are filled with amazing flavours and textures, but also because they are so much better suited to our emerging regions and grow so fantastically in our new world climates.  This means less additives, less sprays and more fantastic wine!

There is more to wine than Shiraz alone!!!

If anyone orders Merlot, I’m leaving. I am not drinking any f#%king Merlot!

Wine lovers from different sides of the world...

Sarah.... "Growing up in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland I felt like I was a world away from wine and so I chased my dream of making it in wine regions from one side of the globe to the other!  After meeting Stefano we travelled together for a while but the lure of the coast and the discovery of the amazing possibilities that many Italian, and other less discovered varieties from Europe, offered in my home region, it enticed us both back to see what we could create".

Stefano.... "I come from a small town in Northern Italy. Although I am the first in my family to pursue this career, I remember we had a bottle on the table any day of the week. I now understand that wine is more than just a drink. It's a lifestyle. This brought me to discover some amazing places around the world and finally settle here, where we are keen to mix our knowledge and excitement for winemaking with a new flair".

Nuova Scuola Wines now has a cellar door!

Situated in the picturesque town of Moffatdale, our winemaking home, we have teamed up with two other small producers to bring you our wines through "Barambah Cellars" a cooperative style cellar door.

You can taste through our range at your leisure, take in the stunning views, and enjoy delicious local produce on one of our share plates.

Both Stefano and Sarah will be there most days to answer all of your winemaking questions or just chat about the weather!
